We heard this and a lot more from the guests at DIRTT Connext 2015. For those of you that are not familiar with DIRTT, which stands for “Doing it Right This Time” is the basis of our Modular Interior Construction division. DIRTT provides customizable, sustainable architectural interiors. At DIRTT’s core is a set of robust interface elements that support reconfiguration, extreme levels of customization, and distributed manufacturing. DIRTT’s solutions include DIRTT Walls, DIRTT Millwork, DIRTT Power and DIRTT Networks, along with cutting-edge ICE® technology, and ICEberg®, a powerful modular vs. traditional construction cost-comparison tool.

DIRTT unveils it’s latest Green Learning Center innovations each year in conjunction with NeoCon in Chicago. This year the event was appropriately tagged DIRTT Connext, highlighting the connections the company is making between technology and the construction industry. In an exhilarating week of tours, engaging speakers and good old-fashioned spirit, we were more than a little excited to learn how DIRTT is revolutionizing conventional construction. Everyone at DIRTT Connext experienced a combination of modern timber frame construction and 21^st century technology, bold Corning^® Willow^™ Glassgraphics, healthcare environments that balance practicality and warmth, 3D Thermofoil finishes, the ICE Virtual Reality Experience… and much more. Below are some of the highlights that we are eager to share with the Louisiana and Mississippi markets.

Customization: Organic-looking pieces like a honeycomb roof is allowed to come to life via the Swedish Kürsi CNC Machine System. Each individual honeycomb is unique and offers the end-user a one-of-a-kind, custom feature. The Timber Framing concept features a curved timber frame that allows limitless combinations for modular home construction and creative interior concepts. Floors and ceilings now become modular construction tools with acoustic options and embedded functions.

Focus on healthcare: DIRTT is striving to provide a unique experience for those in the healthcare industry. Depending on patient needs, features like embedded, touch screen electronics can display patient records while examination tables can be folded back into the wall allowing more space. By incorporating pass-through millwork into the wall, DIRTT has created a way for hospital staff to stock patients’ rooms from behind the walls so that the patient isn’t disturbed.

Importance of Bathrooms: What happens in the bathroom is not all that glamorous, but that doesn’t mean the space shouldn’t be! Metal laser cut detail is a sophisticated option that allows texture and detail to play into a design. The placement of water faucets, soap dispensers, and hand dryers were thoughtfully executed, making the user feel as if they had stepped into a residential space.

A Virtual Reality: DIRTT is widely recognized for their ICE Software. It is a source known for challenging designers and non-visual thinkers alike. Just this year, DIRTT unveiled a virtual reality version that allows individuals to walk through a space using VR goggles. DIRTT’s Calgary office provides visitors with backpacks and goggles which allows them to virtually walk through a space before it is built. This groundbreaking technology even allows the space outside building windows to be programmed with landscapes or cityscapes complete with sunrises and sunsets. The software allows for quick changes (even in 3D) so that you can see a graphical, interaction map of your design.
