As the 2024 spring semester commenced, Tulane University proudly opened the doors to the Steven and Jann Paul Hall for Science and Engineering. This state-of-the-art building, designed by Payette, is located on the campus’ Academic Quad in the growing science district. Spanning five stories and 76,000 square-feet, Paul Hall stands as one of the most significant expansions in Tulane’s history and enables students and faculty to spearhead ground-breaking innovation, multidisciplinary research, and engaged teaching.
Connected to the adjacent Flower Hall, this ambitious project underscores the University’s commitment to fostering an integrated academic community that supports advanced research and educational excellence. The building is home to the Tulane Brain Institute and various departments of the Tulane School of Science and Engineering, including biomedical engineering, computer science, materials science, engineering physics, psychology, and cell and molecular biology. It serves as a collaborative hub where students, scientists, and entrepreneurs can make pioneering discoveries together and accelerate advancements to the market. Additionally, the facility equips both students and faculty with vital knowledge on technology transfer and intellectual property, alongside other essential tools to enhance their success.
Paul Hall features three floors of labs, a 200+ seat auditorium, classrooms, common and study spaces, faculty offices, an animal research facility, makerspace and a nanofabrication cleanroom. Moreover, by opening its doors to researchers from neighboring institutions, such as Xavier University, the University of New Orleans and others, Paul Hall stands as a central node in a larger network of academic and research collaboration. This strategic positioning not only enriches the educational landscape but also serves as a beacon attracting top-tier students and researchers, further solidifying Tulane’s role in shaping the future of science and engineering globally.
