Baptist Community Ministries (BCM) has embarked on a new chapter with the relocation of their headquarters after moving from a corporate high-rise downtown on Poydras Street to a historic building nestled uptown on St Charles Avenue. Their new office occupies an expansive 11,000-square feet, two-story building renovated by EskewDumezRipple (EDR) and reflects their deep-rooted commitment to community engagement and outreach. Located in a former Hancock Whitney bank branch, the design honors the building’s mid-century architectural heritage, preserving original elements, such as the wood paneling and terrazzo floors, while integrating modern functionality.
Creating an environment that is welcoming, warm, and transparent, Baptist Community Ministries incorporated multi-functional furnishings that cater to both their staff and community meetings. The headquarters feature a variety of communal spaces, including lounge areas, counter-height tables, booths, and café seating, which provide flexibility and choice, and reflects BCM’s deep commitment to openness and inclusivity. While these open areas foster collaboration, private offices and workstations ensure comfort and privacy for individual tasks. Through a thoughtful restoration, the new headquarters not only symbolize a return to the community, offering a more accessible and inviting presence, but also stand as a testament to BCM’s ongoing mission and vision for the future.
