As the nation’s leading outdoor advertising company, Lamar has grown from a small sign company to one of the largest out-of-home advertising agencies, helping local businesses and national brands reach broad audiences everyday. Family-owned since 1902, they sought a new home that would carry them into the next generation. Having outgrown their previous offices, Lamar sought a larger space that would improve workplace dynamics and provide enhanced amenities and resources for employee satisfaction. Fortunately, they didn’t have to look far though. Architecture and interior design firm EskewDumezRipple transformed a 1970s data center across the street into a light-filled, inspiring environment that reinforces a culture of openness and fosters the creative process.
The three-story, 115,000-square-foot building in Baton Rouge now features a large training room, conference rooms, workstations, private offices, a cafeteria, an outdoor patio and an open air courtyard. For focused work, open-plan workstations with strategically placed storage and panels provide team members privacy and a designated space to concentrate on tasks while not being isolated from their colleagues. Classically designed private offices with ample storage in warm veneer finishes and guest seating offer executives a practical and productive space. Meanwhile, a ground-floor company cafe and adjacent lounge are central gathering spots that encourage casual encounters and connectivity between team members. An outdoor patio also serves as an extension of the workplace, providing areas for informal meetings, brainstorming sessions and employee lunches. Vintage billboard ads from their archives are incorporated throughout the space to reflect their history and inspire. Together these architectural elements and shared spaces build a sense of family and community. With an emphasis on Lamar’s company culture and people, their corporate headquarters continue to create a social environment that fosters relationships and boosts collaboration and creativity.
