In 2015, LA/SPCA completed Phase II of its Dorothy Dorsett Brown Animal Rescue and Care Center. The addition includes a 40,000-square-foot expansion of the interior and exterior space to the already existing 22,000-square-foot facility. The expansion will fully replace the Japonica Street location that was destroyed during Hurricane Katrina, and address the LA/SPCA’s growth since 2005, not only restoring the facilities and capacity that were lost, but also adding a permanent veterinary clinic, education spaces, administrative offices and a new adoption wing.

Louisiana SPCA – Animal Adoption, Wellness and Education Center

 

The Louisiana SPCA is a private 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the elimination of animal suffering. Through aggressive adoption programs, high volume/affordable spay/neuter, and humane education they offer the best possible scenario to re-home Louisiana’s adoptable animals and combat pet overpopulation. In 2015,  LA/SPCA completed Phase II of its Dorothy Dorsett Brown Animal Rescue and Care Center. The addition includes a 40,000-square-foot expansion of the interior and exterior space to the already existing 22,000-square-foot facility. The expansion will fully replace the Japonica Street location that was destroyed during Hurricane Katrina, and address the LA/SPCA’s growth since 2005, not only restoring the facilities and capacity that were lost, but also adding a permanent veterinary clinic, education spaces, administrative offices and a new adoption wing. AOS worked closely with Eskew+Dumez+Ripple and Mark Reynolds of Mark Design to supply furnishings that would accommodate the unique needs of the essential programs that the LA/SPCA provides to our community. The result is a lively and welcoming adoption wing with a series of private rooms for interacting with adoptable cats and dogs, much-needed support space for offices and storage for supplies used for hurricane evacuations and disaster response.
