The Shop Salt Lake City | AOS Interior Environments
As technology frees people from working in one location, mobile workstyles have emerged and lifted limitations of where work is done. Designed in collaboration between EskewDumezRipple and Domain Companies, The Shop at The Exchange is the second co-working outpost of The Shop. Located in downtown Salt Lake City, the mixed-use development combines workplaces, residences and retailers in a central location, contributing the area’s growth. Covering 30,000-square feet, The Shop consists of three floors of shared workspaces, multiple meeting rooms, common areas, open lounges, telephone booths, a kitchen and a rooftop patio. The alternative workspace supports choice, flexibility and experience so people can choose where and how they want to work.

The Shop Salt Lake City

Businesses of all sizes and types—from small start-ups to global enterprises—can rent offices on a temporary or ongoing basis. Designed to suit a variety of needs, members can lease private offices for one to eight people, sign up for monthly memberships or purchase day passes. Through a variety of layouts, Knoll workstations provide a blank canvas for tenants to style their office. Spacious private offices allow users to showcase their brand identity, while dedicated desks in shared offices offer secure storage and ergonomic task seating in a communal setting.

To cultivate a choice-based experience, the design team created a series of inviting gathering places and touchdown areas for focused and collaborative work. Open common areas and lounges naturally work together as a multi-purpose space where people can chat, connect or get down to work. Located near the reception area, a large kitchen also invites visitors in and enriches the hospitality experience, providing The Shop with an expansive space to host community events, networking opportunities and educational programming. Additionally, a large conference room and smaller meeting rooms offer privacy and seamless tech for brainstorm sessions and presentations. Together these amenity spaces support a growing ecosystem that recognizes the value of flexibility, community and shared resources to foster creativity and ingenuity.

Inspired by the natural landscape and nearby railroads, The Shop comes together at the intersection of rustic, industrial and sophisticated design. Material variety weaves together a series of warm woods, grey and blue upholstery, soft leathers and steel, which bring the outside in. Inspiration lies at every turn as the building is also infused with a robust multimedia collection from local Utah artists.

With a prime location on the TRAX line and walking distance to local restaurants, shops and housing, The Shop provides access—access to other entrepreneurs, cultural cornerstones and volunteer opportunities—while helping members reduce their own carbon footprint and create a positive global impact. With its spacious floorplan and sweeping city views, The Shop is a well-oriented, convenient and comprehensive co-working space. As a hub of local entrepreneurship, small business development and community engagement, it supports a wide-range of up and coming business leaders and reflects the connections across the way people live, work and play.
